Arrival Day
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be transferred to Moshi for briefing and preparation. This day is dedicated to meeting your guides, checking your gear, and ensuring you are ready for the adventure ahead.
Day 1: Nalemuru Gate to Simba Camp
The journey begins at Nalemuru Gate, where the initial trek takes you through farmland and pine forests. The gradual ascent leads to Simba Camp, located at 2,600 meters. This first day offers a gentle introduction to the trek.
Day 2: Simba Camp to Kikelewa Camp
From Simba Camp, the trail continues through moorland zones. As you ascend, you will be treated to expansive views of the Kenyan plains. The day ends at Kikelewa Camp, situated at 3,600 meters, where you will camp amidst giant heathers.
Day 3: Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp
The trek from Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp involves a steeper climb. As you approach Mawenzi Tarn, you will be rewarded with stunning views of the Mawenzi peak. The camp is set in a picturesque location at 4,330 meters, beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi.
Day 4: Mawenzi Tarn Camp to Kibo Hut
This day involves crossing the lunar desert of the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The landscape is stark and beautiful, with the trail leading to Kibo Hut at 4,700 meters. This is the base camp for the summit attempt.
Day 5: Kibo Hut to Summit and Back to Horombo Hut
The summit push begins around midnight, with a challenging ascent to Gillman’s Point and then to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters. After taking in the breathtaking sunrise and panoramic views, you will descend back to Kibo Hut for a rest before continuing to Horombo Hut at 3,720 meters.
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate, then Departure Day
The final day involves descending through the lush rainforest from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate. After completing the necessary formalities and receiving your summit certificate, you will be transferred back to Moshi. Depending on your flight schedule, you may depart on the same day or stay overnight in Moshi.
