3-day Mount Meru itinerary
Day 1: Momella Gate to Mariakamba Hut
Your adventure begins at Momella Gate, where you’ll meet your guide and start the ascent through the lush rainforest. Keep an eye out for wildlife as you make your way to Mariakamba Hut, situated at 2,514 meters. The trail offers stunning views and the chance to see giraffes, zebras, and monkeys. Arrive at the hut in the afternoon and enjoy a relaxing evening with dinner and rest.
Day 2: Mariakamba Hut to Saddle Hut
After breakfast, continue your ascent from Mariakamba Hut to Saddle Hut at 3,570 meters. The trail becomes steeper and more challenging, but the panoramic views of the Meru Crater and Ash Cone are worth the effort. You might encounter buffaloes and various bird species along the way. Upon reaching Saddle Hut, you’ll have time to rest and prepare for the early morning summit attempt.
Day 3: Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak to Mariakamba Hut to Momella Gate
Start the final ascent to Socialist Peak early in the morning to reach the summit by sunrise. The climb is steep and challenging, but the breathtaking views from the top at 4,566 meters are unforgettable. After celebrating your achievement, descend back to Saddle Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Mariakamba Hut. From there, retrace your steps to Momella Gate, where your incredible 3 days Mount Meru hiking journey concludes.
